Bathroom installation cost
A typical bathroom installation cost in London and the south east can cost anywhere between £2,000 and £15,000+ depending on several factors. A lot depends on the location. If the premises are located in central London, with limited or no parking then you can expect to pay upto a 50% premium on average costs. Conversely if the premises are in more rural locations with free parking and generally less congestion than you can expect a lower price. Obviously things like granite tiles are more expensive to fit than ceramic ones and there are other similar distinguishing factors so please read on to have a better understanding.

Cost to tile a bathroom
Aside from location, parking and general congestion, what type of wall finishes are required can have a major influence on overall cost. Increasingly customers are deciding on shower panels whether plastic or MDF coated as opposed to tiles. The benefit being they are quicker and cheaper to install and there are no future grout discoloration considerations to deal with. The downside being that the look can be slightly industrial looking, especially with plastic panels. Traditional tiles are more expensive to fit, especially if large granite or porcelain tiles are required as they require perfectly level walls which require more preparation work. Ceramic tiles are often a happy medium and providing a darker grout is used, future discoloration is often not a problem. Panels generally start from around £40 a square meter installed where as you can pay anything upto around £200 a square meter for granite tiles.
Shower installation cost
This largely depends on what type, whether a mixer type run off of a combi boiler, an electric shower or the new digital type that are remote controlled so the shower is at the correct temperature before you even step in. Electric showers are handy in case you ever have a problem with your boiler as a back up and can help reduce demand on hot water in busy households where demand can be high. Expect to pay anywhere between £200 supplied and fitted to £3,000 for a high end fitting.
Bathroom refurbishment cost
This is assuming a new bathroom is already in place and that all fixtures and fittings are retaining their respective location. Assuming no unforseen problems like unknown leaks, previously poor workmanship or even rodent problems, expect to pay anywhere between £2,000 and £10,000+.
Cost of fitting a bathroom 2019
Labour rates have largely stayed the same over the last few years but material costs have certainly increased. We have noticed that some suppliers are using products packaged as the same but are actually inferior, ie. no longer stainless steel connecting bolts in toilets but plastic. Others have just increased prices. Either way you can almost be certain that prices are on the rise so probably best to do today what will cost you more tomorrow.
Fixture | Installed Average | Lowest to Highest |
Shower/Tub | £400–£800 | £300–£3,000 |
Tile | £3–£6/SF | £3–£7/SF |
Toilet | £200–£300 | £200–£2,500 |
Sink/Vanity | £140–£430 | £150–£3,600 |
Flooring | £3–£6/SF | £1–£80/SF |
Plumbing | £630 | £450–£950 |
Electric shower installation cost
Electric showers cost more to install as you generally need to supply new cables and possibly upgrade the electrics to make sure they are safe to use. They are generally cheaper to buy than some certain types of showers though. Assuming all the electrics are ok which around half of the time they are, expect to pay £600 to £1,800.
Cost of walk in shower installation
We only fit walk in showers on ground floors and advise shower trays if on any floor above ground floor. This is because there is often slight movement in floors above ground floor and water has a horrible habit of finding its way downwards. Drainage is the biggest consideration, especially if a step up into the shower is to be avoided. Costs can vary from £1500 to £9,000+.
Cost to install new bathroom
Quite often we get asked to install a new bathroom where one previously didn’t exist, for instance a new ensuite in a bedroom. The works can often be complicated and intrusive as generally rooms need completely reconfiguring. The cheapest one we have completed was £5,000 and the dearest was £12,000 but as with anything, you can spend upwards of this depending on finishes.
Average cost to fit a bathroom
I would say on average our customers spend approximately £7,000 on a new bathroom.
